In 1801 the ten-year-old Carl Czerny impressed Ludwig van Beethoven in a performance of Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata. At the age of 15 he had launched a career as a piano teacher. Czerny was chosen by Beethoven not only to give the first performance of his First Piano Concerto, and the Vienna premiere of his Fifth Piano Concerto but also to teach his nephew Carl. It is impossible to understate Czerny's importance as a teacher and his many educational works for pianists at all stages are as important today as when they were first produced. One of the most important piano teachers of all time, Carl Czerny's many books of studies and technical exercises cater for all levels of development. The 30 Études de mécanisme, Op. 849 were composed to prepare advancing students for the famous 'School of Velocity' in which the development of virtuoso rapidity is undertaken. This edition of Op. 849 is edited by Adolf Ruthardt and is an important part of any piano student's library.

Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor (Op. 16), composed in 1868, is the only concerto that he completed. It is one of Grieg's most popular works and considered part of the core piano repertoire. This Edition Peter's folio would suit advanced pianists. Jacques Féréol Mazas (1782-1849) was a French composer, conductor, violinist and pedagogue, and many of his compositions were studies and methods for young violin and viola students. His three progressive volumes of violin études, 75 Études mélodiques et progressives, Op. 36 - Volume 1 (Études spéciales), Volume 2 (Études brillantes) and Volume 3 (Études d'artistes)  - are considered classics of violin pedagogy and have been in constant use by violin students and teachers since they were published.

A Giddy Girl comes from the collection of 10 pieces entitled Histories (Stories) composed in 1922. Suitable for the intermediate pianist. Numerous tempo and character changes are reflective of her indecisiveness – she just can’t make up her mind! This edition is based on the original edition published by Leduc in 1922. Also consulted was an article in Clavier written by Wesley Roberts. Ibert’s pedal marks appear in measures 1-2, 9-10 and 16 – all other pedal marks, parenthetical material and fingerings are editorial.

The Spanish pianist, teacher and composer Enrique Granados was one of the founders of the modern school of piano music in Spain and wrote many pieces for the instrument. These 'Stories of the Young' provide a contrasted collection of lyrical movements and lively, spirited pieces.
