A Giddy Girl comes from the collection of 10 pieces entitled Histories (Stories) composed in 1922. Suitable for the intermediate pianist. Numerous tempo and character changes are reflective of her indecisiveness – she just can’t make up her mind! This edition is based on the original edition published by Leduc in 1922. Also consulted was an article in Clavier written by Wesley Roberts. Ibert’s pedal marks appear in measures 1-2, 9-10 and 16 – all other pedal marks, parenthetical material and fingerings are editorial.
Jacques Ibert (1890 – 1962) studies with Faure, Vidal and won the Prix de Rome in 1919. From 1937 – 1955 he was the director of the French Academy in Rome. His compositions ranger from ballets, chamber and piano music, operas, songs, and symphonic poems. His polished writing displays characteristics of neoclassical and impressionistic styles and is frequently witty and light.
