The OBERON 3 brings the best of both worlds. The cabinet size enables an optimal balance between inner volume for bass performance, and a compact appearance for small rooms, discreet audio setups or wall mounting. Combining the large sound of a floor-standing speaker with the compact design of a stand-mount, the OBERON 3 is the perfect fit for any stand-mount or shelf solution.

With the launch of the DALI OBERON loudspeaker series, we have picked the best elements from our current speakers and brought them together in a series that delivers on audio quality, looks and versatility. The 29 mm ultra light-weight soft dome tweeter integrates seamlessly with the 7” wood fibre (SMC based) woofer for impressive highs, detailed and crisp mids and a surprising coherent and well-timed bass.

The OBERON 3 is easy to integrate into any room. Both the driver materials and geometry applied in the OBERON 3 have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover.

As result, you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. This is important as you are rarely seated directly in front of your loudspeakers when listening to music. An added benefit is seriously reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions causing frequency distortion, as these will always be stronger in an on-axis response. This is also the reason why all DALI speakers are not designed to be toed-in.

Midrange Drivers

The Oberon 3 Bookshelf speakers features a 7 inch diameter low loss woofer, the same used in the flagship Oberon 7, producing optimised sound with a new wood fibre structure cone, to deliver a delicate midrange response and bass frequencies. Constructed from paper pulp reinforced with wood fibres, the cone is stiff, yet lightweight, allowing for subtle control. The cone is capable of reproducing all the micro details in the sound, for a high accuracy, unfiltered performance. The Oberon 3 contains the larger than standard 7 inch driver to allow for a lower voice coil excursion with the same pressure level, leading to an effortless reproduction of musical dynamics whilst the woofer membrane uses a rubber surround for free movement and a flexible control.

SMC Technology

The SMC technology used in the Dali Oberon 3 speakers reduces mechanical distortion often produced by hysteresis and eddy currents. The magnet motor improvements result in less third order distortion, meaning long listening pleasure with a relaxed midrange and a higher detailed performance. The magnet motor itself is constructed from an iron pole piece topped with a 10mm SMC disk, to minimise the negative effects of the iron, and putting the SMC disk in the main working area of the voice coil. Maximum effect is extracted from the SMC in this position for a greatly improved constant flux field.

Tweeter

Alongside the midrange driver, an ultra-lightweight 29mm tweeter is used on the Oberon 3 speakers. Developed specifically for the Oberon series, the oversized tweeter has a membrane inspired by ultra-light wave weave fabric, optimised for a larger bandwidth in the lower frequencies. The crossover between the woofer and the tweeter is then well balanced and coherent, with a clear midrange. The tweeter is able to produce wide dispersion thanks to a carefully designed front plate with similar geometry to the Rubicon and Opticon series.

Cabinet

The Oberon 3 bookshelf speakers are constructed from high density CNC machined MDF, with rigid construction and solid bracings inside the cabinet for reinforcement. Resonance within the cabinet is virtually eliminated thanks to the stiffness of materials. The bass ports of the speakers are fitted at the rear, allowing you to place the speakers nearer the wall for increased bass response. The front grille design for the Oberon series is completely new, featuring rounded corners and a textured fabric for a lighter, contemporary look. ‘Mountain Grey’ grilles are supplied with the White and Light Oak finishes, while the Black Ash and Dark Walnut use ‘Shadow Black’ grilles. A ‘Marshmallow White’ grille is also available for an all-white look.
